A collection of three bags altered with manipulated fabric forms, braided ribbon and textile shapes. Paper board and felt interiors keep the bags upright. The positioning and interaction of the sculptures can be rearranged in response to the location. My research for this project began with an essay “The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction” by Ursula K. Le Guin, which rejects the popularity and usefulness of the hero narrative and elevates the container or carrier bag as a cultural contribution worthy of discussion.
In the textile series Three Friends I worked to create objects that build a coalition of care and preservation in the face of the rejection, isolation, and devaluation of labor, reflecting on the relocations and dislocations in my past.
